The EUSR Safe Control of Operations (SCO) Gas scheme is the essential, knowledge-based requirement for all individuals involved in controlling, managing, and supervising operational work on the UK gas distribution networks.

Designed around the requirements of the industry standard IGEM/GL/6 Edition 3, this training provides the framework and perimetry procedures necessary to maintain system safety, ensure compliance, and protect personnel and assets across Routine and Non-Routine Operations.

Who Should Attend?

This training is mandatory for all gas industry personnel involved in planning, authorising, or carrying out safety-critical procedures on the gas network. This includes, but is not limited to, those who are or will become:

  • Competent Persons (CP)
  • Authorising Engineers (AE)
  • Supervisors and Managers responsible for controlling gas network operations.

Duration Varies depending on modules taken. Initial Full Course is typically 2 daysRenewal is typically 1 day or delivered via e-learning/e-assessment.
Accreditation EUSR (Energy & Utility Skills Register).
Prerequisites A valid EUSR SHEA Gas registration is MANDATORY before attending any SCO module.
Assessment Multiple-choice questions after each module. Assessments for AE roles include additional audit and writing exercises.
Certification EUSR registration for SCO is valid for 5 years.
Delivery Trainer-led Face-to-Face delivery is mandatory for all Initial Training.
